  • Their reward was to meet Billy Joel and have him perform for them
  • Andy, Wes, and Maria were taken into the boardroom
  • Maria AND Wes were fired because they both had a tendency to snap easily
  • I liked this episode because I enjoyed learning about the fashion industry a little bit during this episode. It was also surprising to me that two people would be fired on this episode.

Boston Winter

As part of Boston Mayor Martin J Walsh's vision to reinvent the City Hall Plaza, he created this new Winter Wonderland in the plaza. "Boston Winter" was designed to bring a slice of the North Pole into the heart of Boston. The festive installment sponsored by Berkshire Bank  features an ice skating path, shops run by local artists, food trucks, hot cocoa stands, and a pedal- powered light up tree. Boston Winter opened up on December 7th and is planned to run through the end of December, but the ice skating rink will be open until February.  This relates well to marketing because the use of social media was present in order to gain publicity for the new event. Small business owners and Etsy designers will sell their goods here, and the city of Boston will create revenue during the event series.

Primary data- Is data obtained for the first time and used specifically for the particular problem or issue or under study

Secondary data- Is data that has already been collected for some purpose other than the current study.

Vocabulary 29.2 :

Validity- existed when the question asked measure what was intended to be measured

Reliability- exists when a research technique produces nearly identical results in repeated trails

Open-Ended questions- asks respondents to construct their own response to a question. Ex; "How can we be better?"

  • Good questionnaires have good validity and reliability.
  • Different questions include yes/no questions, multiple choice, rating scale, and level of agreement.

Minor Points:
  • Survey questions can be either open ended or forced choice.
  • All surveys should have clear deadlines, should have an explanation of the purpose of the survey, and make sure the people taking the survey are unbiased.
  • Secondary data is obtained by internet sources, U.S. Government sources, consumer and business information companies, and business and trade publications.
  • Primary data is obtained through surveys and the observation method.

What to do Now?

The majority of this class does not buy lunch, and only 15% buy lunch every day of the week. Mostly females answered this survey, and it was distributed by half seniors and juniors.  The fan favorite of the lunches was the "Pizza Fridays" and the most popular lunch among our F Block class is Pizza. Over HALF of the class agreed that they are not satisfied with the school lunch, while only 30% said they are satisfied with it. For the final question, I asked "if you could add to the school lunch menu, what would you add?" and the most popular item is ice cream.

To make my survey more effective, I could have expanded it out to other classes, and even people who are not taking this marketing course. This way, I would more responses with more variety.

The Red Sox Foundation is committed to improving the lives of children and adults across the New England area. The Foundation's efforts are primarily focused on improving health, educational and recreational opportunities, as well as social service programs in urban neighborhoods. For example, in  September 2009, the Red Sox Foundation launched a major new program to serve New England based veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress and their families.

John Hancock Fenway Fantasy Day

Since 1953, the Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund have been a team, working in support of cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. During this fun filled day, patients at the Jimmy Fund will be able to pitch. hit, and run the bases at Fenway, and feel like they are a member of the team. Volunteers and sponsors can join a team and help fund raise the event. Last year at the event they raised over $220,000 to support cancer research at the Dana Farber institute.

5.1 Business and Social Responsibility

1. A business is all of the activities involved in producing and marketing goods and services.

2. The two primary functions in a business are production and the marketing of goods and services.

3. A business can be categorized in four ways; by size, by profit orientation, by the market served, and by the kind of product provided.

4. E-commerce  is important because in this day in age, so much stuff is done through electronics and it makes it easier for the customer to purchase the product online instead of going to the store.

Toy Hall of Fame - Blog Research #1

1. After doing some research on the Toy Hall of Fame website, I came across a list of the final 12 toys that made the list. My favorite 5 toys on the list include: Bubble Wrap, Pinball, Care Bears, a Swing, and UNO. These toys are classic toys that children have grown up with. Bubble Wrap was actually intended to become wallpaper, but after a mishap, consumers quickly became entertained by popping the bubbles. Care Bears are soft bears which promote friendship and kindness. The pinball machine is not only popular in arcades, but also in homes. The swing really took off during the suburban movement in America, with most families owning a swing in their backyard for children to use. Lastly, the family card game, UNO, is popular with everyone. Creative branding like Elvis Presley themed UNO and Disney themed UNO helped promote the game even more.

2. Once I looked at the Hall of Fame list, I became nostalgic. Most of these toys, such as a the swing and Care Bears are toys that I used when I was younger. Another thought I had was that I never considered "bubble wrap" to be a toy. I guess the term toy could be anything that provides entertainment for the consumer. Bubble Wrap undoubted has created entertainment for the consumer. Looking at this Hall of Fame was really cool to look at and view what toys are popular today.
